1. Live Tiles. Bored with those rows and columns of little iOS icons? Bewildered by Android's limitless customisation options and multiple home screens? Instead, learn to love Microsoft's brightly-colored squares and rectangles. Move them, re-size them, access them from your scrollable home screen, and watch as they live out independent and interesting lives all of their own, updating you about missed calls, incoming messages and Facebook updates.
2. HD screens and multi-core processors. Yes, big is better and fast is better still. Windows Phone 8 supports 1280 x 768 pixel high definition displays, as featured in the Nokia Lumia 920, along with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.
3. Tons of pre-installed apps. From the excellent People Hub that integrates Facebook, Twitter and an address book, to Me, that's all about you. You'll find Internet Explorer 10, a Calendar, Games, Music & Videos and Office all waiting for you. Nokia Maps is a good rival to Google Maps, and doesn't suffer the well-publicised problems of Apple Maps. Nokia Drive gives you voice-guided satnav, and City Lens uses the camera's viewfinder to inform you about your surroundings. Photos Hub keeps all your photos in one place, and even includes online albums, including your friends' albums. See what everyone is up to, and share your photos via Facebook, email or NFC. All of it is pre-installed on Nokia Windows Phone 8 devices.
4. Super-easy setup. Just sign in to your phone with your various accounts - Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc and your phone automatically syncs with everything, setting up your contacts, calendar, photo albums, etc. Everything in Windows Phone 8 is social, so sharing is simple. Migrating from Android is a doddle!
5. Nokia makes them. Remember the good old days of mobile? When that brick-like Nokia 3210 bulged out of your jeans pocket? That soothing "da-da-da-da da-da-da-da da-da-da-da daaaa!" ringtone? Want to own a Nokia again? Windows Phone 8 is for you.
6. A superb keyboard. Ergonomically designed and very fast and accurate in use, the keyboard also includes an advanced predictive text facility that not only predicts the word you're typing, but predicts the next word based on what you've already typed. Effortless communication has arrived.
7. Support for NFC. Tap your phone against another Windows Phone 8 NFC-equipped phone and share photos, music, contacts or whatever. You also get wallet functionality.
8. SkyDrive gives you free cloud storage with automated back up. Plus there's support for microSD cards and even microSDXC, giving up to 64GB of additional cheap storage.
9. 4G. Both the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 are 4G phones, so Windows Phone 8 is a good option to choose if your endless lust for data cannot be controlled.
10. Wireless charging. It's not unique to Windows Phone 8, but if you think that wireless charging is absolutely the coolest thing to enter the mobile universe, then this is yet another reason to switch to the OS.
In the interests of balance, let's mention the fact that the Windows Phone 8 Store is smaller than Apple's App Store or Google Play. But you probably already knew that. Still, there are already more than 10,000 apps. All things considered, I'd recommend that you at least consider switching from Apple or Google, and give Microsoft's latest effort a chance to prove itself. Who knows, you may love it!
